Munich Macabre

A grisly history and archaeology tour through the dark underbelly of Munich

Note: We are on our winter break. Munich Macabre (small group tour) will be back for Summer 2026. We will however still run as a private tour

Your guide Taff Simon (aka Hans von Spanker) will regale  you with fascinating tales about the ancient history and archaeology of Munich, Medieval life, trade, the Black Death, “justice” and persecution, defences and military history…we even give you the opportunity to sample some authentic medieval-style beers!

Get to handle original ancient artefacts like coins and pottery, as well as swords and armour.

Please note that this is not a ghost tour; we love a good ghost story as much as anyone – but this is not that tour. If however you have a passion for history and archaeology, then this is for you.

Take a drink – with Death himself!

Where and when?: We meet in Marienplatz, just by the Fish Fountain (Corner of the New Town Hall). During the autumn and winter of 2024/5 we have a reduced schedule: our original artefacts do not like the cold and wet (Taff is not too fussed on it either, especially in medieval clothing) – we will return again on weekends in 2025 – watch this space –  although we will offer this as a private tour – email us for details.

The tour generally runs to about two and half hours. (The time flies by)

How much? Regular:  €25

Concessions: (Students of any age, Seniors aged 65+, and serving or ex-military and first responders)  €23

Young kids*: you decide

Reservations required – drop us an  email

Note:

Some of the history described in this tour is – to put it mildly – fairly shocking and in some cases downright grim. If you are in any doubt as to the suitability for any members of your group, please get in touch. Alternatively, consider booking this as a private tour and omit some of the horrors for some hands-on fun, like learning to use a medieval drop spindle or trying your hand at writing on parchment.
