Like beer? Love history? Join the club!
This tour is not set in stone, what is certain though is that you will have a great time, learn about Munich and try some amazing local brews along the way.
With guides with backgrounds in archaeology, social and military history you can really pick and choose which subjects you cover on the tour. You could opt to have an overview of important WW2 sites, or maybe have a whistle-stop-tour of some of the impressive churches. How about a mixture, with some local culture and etiquette thrown in as well?
You’ll get a bottle of one of the best local brews to kick the tour off with, then visit at least two local pubs or beer gardens. You’ll get to sample the 3 main local styles – the Helles, Dunkel and Weizen and depending on the time of year and availability, a local seasonal beer as well. Learn about the history of brewing in Munich and Bavaria as well as how the “Munich Big 6” came to dominate.
Cost?: POA; works well with a small group
Meeting point?: For tours where you have an interest in Medieval history, we recommend Karlsplatz. All other tour tours, we suggest Marienplatz. Alternatively, if you are staying in the central, “Old Town” area, we can meet you at your hotel.
Important Notes:
Beer is a big part of the culture here, we even drink it for breakfast (not everyday though…well at least not in this tour company!) but this is not a frat-boy pub crawl, where the aim is to chug, get drunk, fight the locals, and wake up in a puddle of urine and vomit which might not even be your own. Those sort of tours are available in Munich, just not with us; the internet is your friend if this is what you want.
You fancy a tour like this but are not really a beer drinker? Well, whilst not a wine region, Bavaria is smack-bang next to Austria which home to some absolutely fantastic vineyards; and of course there will always be non-alcoholic options.
Parents – you are welcome to bring your kids – this is still a history tour – and the legal age for drinking beer is 16. (Wine and hard stuff is 18). However, if you want a more kid-friendly tour, consider booking one of our other well regarded offerings. We still take a break in a pub with some historical connections but beer would not be a focus.
